Minette Substation Expansion

Services: Natural & Environmental Resources

Work Involved:

  • Environmental Protection Plan (EPP)
  • Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) Services
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Migratory Bird Nest Surveys

Project Description:

The Minette substation expansion will provide transmission of electricity to the LNG Terminal Facility in Kitimat, BC. In the summer of 2020, Ecofor provided environmental services to aid in the construction of the transmission line structure foundations. Construction activities included site excavation, dewatering, soil handling, material stockpiling, concrete and formwork, piling and welding, backfilling, and revegetation.

Prior to project kick-off, our qualified environmental professionals assisted the contractor with the creation of an Environmental Protection Plan that ensured compliance with environmental legislation, regulations, best management practices, and other client requirements. Our team conducted pre-disturbance surveys for nesting birds at each structure location, providing suitable mitigation for the protection of migratory birds for when construction began. During construction, an Ecofor environmental monitor (EM) monitored each worksite for wildlife and vegetation values, contamination and spills, and water quality.

The EM provided insight and guidance to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and project commitments. Environmental monitoring reports were submitted to the client and owner on a weekly basis over the course of the Project
